Enjoy the Kamloops Symphony at Sun Peaks Resort

July 9, 2007 – Sun Peaks, BC – Head to the mountains July 21st and 22nd for two days of classical, jazz and celtic music at the glorious Music in the Mountains Festival at Sun Peaks Resort. Set against the backdrop of the vivid alpine wildflowers in bloom across the mountains of Sun Peaks, the programme includes performances by members of the Kamloops Symphony, guest performers from the Vancouver Chamber Brass and the Commodore Jazz Ensemble.

Music in the Mountains has evolved from a one day concert to a series of free performances in the Village Square of Sun Peaks and ticketed shows at mid-mountain at the Sunburst Lodge. The free concerts begin Saturday July 21st at 11am with the Celtic Music Ensemble in the village centre with nine additional complimentary performances through the weekend.

Ticketed events featuring the Vancouver Chamber Brass and the Sagewinds Woodwind Quintet will take place Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon at the Sunburst Lodge at mid-mountain. Tickets are $40 per person and include a chairlift ride and gourmet salmon barbeque. Guests are welcome to explore the alpine hiking trails, and take in the beauty of alpine blossom season, and enjoy a chairlift ride back down to the village. Advance reservations are required for this performance, due to limited seating, call 250-578-5542 to reserve.

Featured Musicians

Cvetozar Vutev is the Concertmaster of the Kamloops Symphony and well known locally. He will be playing with local pianist Dimiter Terziev at 1pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.

The Sagewinds is a woodwind quintet made up of musicians from the Kamloops Symphony: Catharine Dochstader on Flute, Lauris Davis, Oboe, Sally Arai, Clarinet, Olivia Martin, Bassoon and Edmund House, French Horn.

The Vancouver Chamber Brass is a brass quintet made up of musicians from Vancouver who play together regularly as a quintet as well as playing in other groups and orchestras, with many teaching in the Vancouver area: Ben Kinsman, French Horn, Vince Vohradsky, Trumpet, Chris Mitchell, Trumpet, John van Deursen, Trombone and Alicia Seyell, Tuba.

Commodore Jazz Ensemble is from Kamloops and includes Kris Ruston, Guitar

Peter Ward, Bass, Richard Graham, Drums and Vocals and Bernadette Creutzlechleitner, Vocals.

Alpine Blossom Season at Sun Peaks

The Music in the Mountains festival is set against the backdrop of what has come to be known as Alpine Blossom Season at Sun Peaks. For three weeks each summer the upper reaches of Tod Mountain are carpeted with a wide array of colourful alpine flowers including Indian Paintbrush, Tiger Lily and Fireweed to name a few. The Sunburst Chairlift will give flower chasers an easy lift to the blossoms while a network of hiking trails wind their way from the top of the lift providing access to the best viewpoints. Guided hiking tours will also be available and can be booked by calling the Activities and Information Centre at 250-578-5542.
