Alberta based group Cowboy Celtic are well known for their exploration of the connections between Western “cowboy” music and the Celtic music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Now they have made a new connection – with the Kamloops Symphony and orchestral music. A fresh new programme of Cowboy Celtic’s music arranged for performance with full symphony orchestra premieres at 8 pm on March 9 & 10, 2007 in Sagebrush Theatre.
Cowboy Celtic features David Wilkie (mandolin), Denise Withnell (guitar/vocals), Keri Zwicker (harp/vocals), Joseph Hertz (fiddle) and Tami Cooper (flute/vocals). The group has released three highly successful CDs, won a Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma and were featured in a CBC television documentary in 2000. They have toured from the cowboy gatherings of the U.S. to the Scottish Highlands. This will be their first appearance in British Columbia.
