Kamloops, B.C.; Tobiano Golf Course continues to draw international attention to Kamloops’ golf product and most recently was ranked as the number one public golf course in B.C., sixth public golf course in Canada and as the 16th top golf course overall in Canada by SCOREGolf Magazine in their biennial list of the top 100 Golf Courses.
The average age of the top 20 golf courses on SCOREGolf’s list is 45 years; the top ten is 60 years. SCOREGolf has been ranking Canadian golf courses since 1988. Tobiano is in just its 3rd year of operations. “When you have such a strong anchor course in an already strong golf product,” says Lee Morris, CEO, “we really hit the ground running in our marketing.” Designed by Canadian architect Thomas McBroom, Tobiano was named Best New Golf Course in Canada in 2008 by SCOREGolf Magazine and US publication, GolfDigest. SCOREGolf subsequently rated Tobiano as Best Public Golf Course in B.C. and Best Conditioned Public Golf Course in B.C. in 2009. Tourism Kamloops recently completed research resulting in a just released 2010 Metro Vancouver Tracking Study. The strength of Kamloops’ golf product combined with Tourism Kamloops’ marketing efforts has shown some very promising returns. In comparison to a similar study completed in 2008, people who have taken a leisure trip to the Kamloops area in the past two years has risen from 31% to 35%. The number of people who have stayed overnight in Kamloops has risen from 19% to 23% and people that have seen any Tourism Kamloops advertising in the past 12 months has risen from 45% to 59%. “We are very pleased with these results.” states Lee Morris. “We will be conducting further research in the fall and are optimistic that the results will continue to show increases in visits and awareness.” For More Information: Ms. Lee Morris CEO, Tourism Kamloops P: 250.372.8000 C: 250.319.4247 E: lee@tourismkamloops.com
