| Kamloops Makes the Podium for GamesTown 2010 Thursday, January 28th, 2010 |
| Kamloops, B.C. – The City of Kamloops has been named the Bronze medal winner of GamesTown 2010; an announcement made by Premier Gordon Campbell today at a special event hosted by the Province of British Columbia at the Tournament Capital Centre.
“I am very proud of our community,” said Mayor Peter Milobar. “The citizens rallied to get Kamloops into the top 10 and their stories and spirit earned us the honour of being a medal winner in GamesTown 2010. Kamloops has and always will be a community that supports sport and healthy living.” In addition to earning the honour of being named the Bronze medal winner of GamesTown 2010, the community will receive a $25,000 cash award to put towards sport or healthy living facility improvements, two (2) pairs of tickets to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and one (1) pair of tickets to the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games. Beginning Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., the City will be staging an online contest for the residents of Kamloops to enter to win the Olympic or Paralympic tickets. Three lucky winners will win a pair of tickets to one of the following events: 1 Pair (two tickets total) to the Cross-Country Skiing – Ladies’ 15 km Pursuit Olympic Event 1 Pair (two tickets total) to the Alpine Skiing – Ladies’ Super-G Olympic Event 1 Pair (two tickets total) to the Biathlon – Individual, Men’s and Women’s Paralympic Event Residents are encouraged to visit www.kamloops.ca/wintickets and provide their name, address, phone number and email address to enter the contest. For residents who do not have access to the Internet, they can enter in person at City Hall (7 Victoria Street West) beginning Thursday, January 28, 2010. The contest will close on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12 noon and the winners will be contacted and announced shortly after 2:00 p.m. Full contest rules will apply and are available to view at www.kamloops.ca/wintickets. The top three finalists for GamesTown 2010 were chosen by a celebrity judge panel made up of Nancy Greene Raine, Steve Podborski, Simon Whitfield, Dr. Art Hister and Dr. Rhonda Low.
