| Satie de Paris Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 |
March 20 and 21, 8pm, at Sagebrush Theatre
Our first presentation of this original work was such a success the first time, we are bringing it back for two performances!!! Hailed as “Poetry of Stage” by the Kamloops Daily News, and rave reviews by audience members, we felt it needed to live again! With incredible music, aerial silk acrobatics, theatre, film, modern staging and a use of the Sagebrush stage rarely seen in Kamloops, this is a production you should not miss!!
Escape with us back to Paris at the turn of the 20th century where the greatest composers, painters and writers congregated and socialized within the Montmartre district, home of Moulin Rouge and the Bohemian Life. With a hint of jazz, Satie de Paris is anchored around the composer Erik Satie while exploring the music of his French contemporaries such as Ravel, Debussy, Poulenc, and Franck. The structure of the concert is centered on theatrical vignettes that explore the eccentric life of Satie and his unrequited love affair with painter and former circus acrobat Suzanne Valadon. Although Satie did not find fame until his last decade, his music went on to influence the direction of classical music for the next 50 years. Being one of the first composers to write music especially for film, this production also explores the avant-garde through the film footage of French Filmmaker Rene Claire.
