ROUTE 1 - PURSUIT OF THE GOLD RUSH TRAIL

 

Kamloops - Little Fort - 100 Mile House - Cache Creek - Spences Bridge - Merritt - Kamloops

Total Distance: 513 kms (318 miles)

Total Time: 6 hours 25 minutes

This trip will start out taking riders north towards Barriere, the site of a fire that threatened the entire town in 2003. There are still remnants of burnt trees but the landscape in the spring and early summer is green and vibrant with thriving foliage. Continue following the river towards Little Fort. Riders will now head off the path of the river and up into the twisty mountain roads. Enjoy the many pristine lakes along this tour. Motorcycle Tours in Kamloops, British Columbia

Motorcycle Tours in Kamloops, British Columbia

 

1. Kamloops - Little Fort

Distance: 93 kms (60 miles)

Approximate Time: 1 hour

Route: Highway 24

Origin/Destination: Head north towards Little Fort along Highway 5.

Highlights: Space Module Ice Cream Stand from Expo '86

 

2. Little Fort - 100 Mile

Distance: 97 kms (62 miles)

Approximate Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Route: Highway 24

Origin/Destination: Head west towards 100 Mile House on Highway 24. Once getting to Highway 97, riders are at the Mile 97. 100 Mile House is 3 miles to the right and those wanting to continue towards 70 Mile House will turn left onto Highway 97. Need fuel for the bikes and a bite to eat? 100 Mile House is a suggested spot.

 

3. 100 Mile House - Cache Creek

Distance: 113 kms (71 miles)

Approximate Time: 1 hour 20 minutes

Route: Highway 97 South

Origin/Destination: Head south onto Highway 97 towards Cache Creek.

Highlights: The Chasm - 10 kms from 70 Mile House. Turn left onto Chasm Road. About 3 kms down this road, riders will see a lookout to the Chasm. Continue along this road southwest and it will meet up with Highway 97 South. There are painted hills about 15 kms before Cache Creek. While in Cache Creek, check out Horstings Farm, the Bonaparte Bend Winery or the Cariboo Jade Shop.  

 

4. Cache Creek - Spences Bridge

Distance: 50 kms (31 miles)

Approximate Time: 30 minutes

Route: Highway 1

Origin/Destination: Head south on Highway 1 towards Spences Bridge

Highlights: Big Horn Sheep

 

5. Spences Bridge - Merritt 

Distance: 70 kms (40 miles)

Approximate Time: 1 hour

Route: Highway 8

Origin/Destination: After crossing Spences Bridge, drive .5 km and make a sharp turn to the left to Highway 8. Head southeast on Highway 8 towards Merritt, arriving along Nicola Ave.

Highlights: Take it slow and enjoy the picturesque drive along the winding river.

 

6. Merritt - Kamloops

Distance: 90 kms (56 miles)

Approximate Time: 50 minutes

Route: Highway 5A

Origin/Destination: Either continue following Nicola Ave until it meets up with the Yellowhead Highway or turn left onto Vought Street and follow it all the way up the hill. Vought Street will then turn into Highway 5A. (Old Merritt Hwy)

Highlights: See many lakes and farm land with likely sightings of eagles, fishing and check out the Historic Quilchena Hotel and working ranch.
