Nordic Skiing in Kamloops

Noridc Skiing at Stake Lake

Up close with the back country
Glide silently through the pine-scented forests on perfectly groomed and trackset trails. Fresh, crisp air, clear blue skies, and the variety of trails you are looking for are in Kamloops. In fact, Kamloops has organized and hosted many Nordic skiing events in the past, including the Overlander Ski Marathon at Stake Lake.

Kamloops is abundant in charming Nordic ski trails, so let us suggest some places you will surely enjoy.

Stake Lake
This popular ski area is located 25 minutes south of Kamloops on Lac Le Jeune Road. Stake Lake has 45 km (28 mi) of well-groomed classic and skating tracks, some with shelters and outhouses. There are trails for all abilities and a heated day lodge. Open daily November to March and lessons are available.

Harper Mountain
Two loops with a total of 6 km (3.7 mi) of trails at no charge! Trails are partly hilly, offering great views of the valley. Perfect for the entire family. Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available.  View map for driving directions and location information.

Classic wide-open trails are popular in the Kamloops area. This style of skiing is a fantastic way to enjoy the companionship of your skiing partner and absorb the cheery songs of birds happily chirping in snow-laden pine trees. Head to already groomed trails, or seek out less populated areas and break your own.

Sun Peaks Resort
With 28 kilometres of track set cross country trails and another 12 kilometers of un-groomed “backcountry” trails, Sun Peaks offers a diversity of nordic trails suitable for every level of skier. Included with the nordic pass is lift access on the Mt. Morrisey Express, which makes for a great tour from the top of Mt. Morrisey all the way down to the McGillivray Lake warming hut. As well we have a wide variety of shorter trails such as the Village Loop. If you are new to cross country skiing, the sports school offers lessons from professional instructors.
